MEISNER YEAR-LONG ACTOR TRAINING PROGRAM:
First group started September 2010 - Now registering for the twelfth programme in five years!
Register now for the new programme, October 23rd 2017
The Studio, home to Germany's leading professional Meisner classes, embarked just over four years ago on our first year-long, foundational acting programmes. Three semesters eqivalently of ten weeks each, and a final intensive course dealing in the practical aspects of production at the end of the year. This is a unique opportunity for anyone who is serious about the craft of acting, and is looking to train, or re-train, the necessary skills.
What follows is the framework of our upgraded ACTING FOR CAMERA PROGRAMME
Since its formation the Studio has been redefining the training of actors and directors here in Germany. Based in equal measure on European, English and American traditions, our unique approach to acting will teach you, in absolutely practical ways, to relate deeply to your partner's behaviour and respond truthfully, from moment to moment. Taught by André Bolouri, co-founder and co-director of the Actors Space, and other members of the team, this is the most comprehensive unfolding of the Meisner Technique available to actors anywhere in Europe.
You will discover how to work from your character's point of view, improvising freely within the character's circumstances. Through the year you will work repeatedly with scenes and monologues to test and deepen your understanding of the work. Studying text analysis, the creation of character and good audition practice, you will have the chance in the final semester to participate in a theatrical or film production, as part of the Actors-Space Ensemble. This year will allow you to be playful, spontaneous and authentic in every moment of your work and will lead you to a genuine openness and freedom in front of the camera.
This is the only Meisner actors program in Europe that offers a fully invested and inclusive experience of all the exercises as they are taught in New York, and channels their lessons into real familiarity with film work....
There will now be two packages available for actors wishing to study on the Year-Long Program:
1. Core Program: Meisner and Acting for Camera
2. Full Program: Meisner, Voice, Movement and Acting for Camera
The Meisner Course runs from mid-October, three times per week, and covers the whole spectrum of exercises and principles developed in New York by Sanford Meisner. The emphasis, as ever, is on a vigorous and lively contact with your acting partner, reacting from moment to moment with truthful behaviour and uncensored emotion. You will work to strengthen your imaginative life and stimulate your faith in the given circumstances of the scene. Acting demands transparency and authenticity at all times, and Meisner's nurturing of a strong inner life and outer effortlessness is the perfect system of study for screen or stage work.
Susanne Eggert is a fully qualified Linklater Voice teacher with many years' experience both as teacher and actress. Kristin Linklater developed a system of voice training which stretches and strengthens the power and range of the actor's voice, by exercising the body's natural mechanisms. In a three-hour class, running once a week throughout the Programme, her focus on freeing the natural voice makes Susanne's work a perfect complement to the Meisner acting training.
Rob Liethoff, Ulla Renneke, Michael Schurks and other guests work systematically in twice-weekly classes, freeing the body of limitations and habits, so that actors can gain a new experience of their physical selves, and new possibilities of expression in their acting. During the year, you will move towards ways of incorporating physical choices in your acting, to make sure that your inner life is honestly revealed through a mobile, expressive body.
